What is Mindfulness? A Masterclass for Clinicians

Workshop Details

This one day workshop offers participants a great opportunity to get an insight on mindfulness, and in particular Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). It is suitable for those who may not be ready to commit to a full mindfulness course but wish to have some understanding.

MBCT is a skills-based programme that combines elements of cognitive therapy with mindfulness meditation in an eight week group format.

The programme was initially designed with the aim of reducing the risk of recurring depression but MBCT has also been shown to be effective in other physical and emotional conditions such as anxiety, chronic fatigue, pain, stress and panic.

MBCT is recommended by the UK’s National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) as it has been shown to be as effective as antidepressants in preventing recurrence of depression.

In this day and age, our patients are increasingly seeking alternative and lifestyle interventions, and have been known to bring reams of internet printouts to their consultations!

You will go away better informed and confident enough to have an informed conversation with patients about mindfulness.

What is covered:

  • What mindfulness is and what it isn’t
  • The origins of MBCT
  • The scientific evidence for MBCT
