I am a highly experienced GP, Wellness Coach and Mindfulness teacher.
I am also in a privileged position of being a GP Appraiser; appraising GPs for their fitness to practice. It is a role that I thoroughly enjoy, for not only do I get to support and share tricks of the trade with fellow GPs, it connects me with the human being behind the GP; the mother, the father, the wife, the husband, the daughter, the sister, all of it.
We are not immune to the trials and tribulations of this life, we too are human.
For me, the mindfulness seed was planted nearly ten years ago after attending an 8 week mindfulness course, under some misguided premise of continuous professional development! Needless to say, being your typical stressed out GP (at the time), juggling a busy career with the demands of family life, the seed found plenty of fertile ground.
It became personal, and there was no turning back. I have recently completed a Masters degree in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) at Oxford University.
My mindfulness practice has truly transformed my relationship with life as it unfolds moment by moment; the good, the bad and the ugly!
It has been a game changer.
Overall I am more compassionate and kinder to myself, I am more responsive, more aware of the pattens of my mind and have learnt to cultivate skilful habits that serve me well.
As a GP I am more present during consultations, I am a better listener and more compassionate.
I have become a mindful GP.
I am very passionate about sharing these life skills with fellow clinicians to help improve their wellbeing an alleviate their stress and compassion fatigue.
I am also very keen to bring mindfulness to the community.
I have been teaching mindfulness in the community and corporate environment for some time.
I have level 3 safeguarding children and adult certification as well as up to date Basic Life Support and anaphylaxis training.
